Passed the Software Development Practical

Completed the Software Development practical assessment with the result of a pass, I’m so chuffed to the extent I’m lost for words to describe how I feel this moment in time. All I need to do is a theory, that’s easy we are being told. Considering it was one of the subjects I was not sure about at the start, but anyway it got easier as I went along. And to pass Web Development as well keeps the gates open for my HNC in the summer. Anyway its block two next week, I can’t wait. So what it going to be, HNC in Web or Software Development?

Forecast Snow

Have been off college today as normal because I am up to date with my college work, so I thought i'd go into town. Deciding to go home, to my horror. I finally came to terms with the fact we might get the dreaded snow forecast this weekend, so when I got home I took a walk with the camera and took a couple of photos. To my disappointment it was too dark, but I managed to have a play about with one in Photoshop and add an effect.

This first photo has just been cropped with no editing, the light spots are snow flakes.

The next photo was cropped with some light added to make the trees more visible, the light dots are snow flakes.

Then I got a bit adventurous and gave the photo a twirl effect, think it made the photo look great with the light and twirl effect combined.

One of those days editing photos in Photoshop.

Good days work

Well it’s the end of an easy day at college, completed the spreadsheets assessment. Finally got to grips with the absolute cell reference that plagued me in this assessment, other than this I was finished for about 11.00am. Then there was the pc internet and communications assessment, couldn’t have gone better. Got 10 out of 15 and passed with ease. Just leaves the Software development assessment to be finished on Wednesday, so block one is basically finished.

Resulting week

Well its Monday morning and resulting week at college, sat here waiting to attend the first class and complete the spreadsheets assessment. Then later on I will sit the web blogs multiple choice assessment and hopefully pass, completing the day with the pc internet multiple choice assessment. So as it stands it will be an early day home to look over the notes for completing the software development assessment on Wednesday.

Everything is going to plan with the course as I am fulfilling my goal of completing block one as I planned.

Night of Xbox 360

Weekend is near the end and I have done nothing but studying for the last couple of assessments to be taken this week, went into work on Friday night and was told I had a bank holiday due, so I was off last night. As I wasn’t going to study the whole day yesterday I took some time out of the studying and played Call of Duty 4 on my Xbox 360.

As I have completed Call of Duty 4, I thought Id go back and play it again on the veteran difficulty, generates more of a challenge. Playing the game again also means I can achieve some achievements I haven’t got and find Intel I haven’t yet found in the game (In Call of Duty 4 you collect Intel to achieve an achievement).

Passed the web development fundamentals

Well it’s the usually Thursday at college with the little exception of the assessments. One in particular is the resit of web development. Better news is I passed this time, very much a relief as I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I failed again. Other than the multiple choose I have finish the health and beauty completely now, with the report done and submitted, sketches drawn and project plan submitted.

This afternoon is the web blogs class where I have another multiple assessment, feeling confident I will pass.

Never knew how easy Software Development and assessments were

Wednesday, how has college been today and what have I done. First was finishing the spreadsheets assessment I started a couple of weeks ago, was absent last week so couldn’t finish it, Well it’s finished now and to my delight I passed it. On completing that I started the spreadsheets assessment that was joined with the database, finished the corrections for the database side this afternoon. They are basically four sheets of paper were you leave comment as you go and print off the correct evidence.

But my favourite was the software development assessment, after finishing the program last week it had to be edited today by adding certain things , for example a student take a test with a maximum mark of 20. I had to edit the program to only accept 0 to 20 marks, if the user entered 23 the program had to tell the user to re enter a number below 20. With success I got the program to work, so the next part of the assessment is to change the documentation and put in new screenshot as evidence the program works.
So in all I am impressed.

Talented Amy MacDonald

Well it’s nearly the end of January and I thought I’d write a small review about a musician’s music, one in particular is Amy MacDonald. You know the singer from Glasgow who sang at the Hogmanay party earlier this month. She has released her debut album This is The Life, released last year, and went to number one last week, but then was knocked off this week by Scouting for Girls.
I bought the album last year and have to say, there isn’t a song I dislike. It’s one of those albums I can listen to over and over again, it’s so relaxing. My most favourite has to be let’s start a Band. It starts soft then the vocals pick up towards the end of the track.
She’s first class and I like Amy’s music.

To get a taste of her music have a listen

This Is The Life

Mr Rock & Roll

Everything else about Amy

The week ahead

Well I have just about finished my blog assessments, all I have to do now is review my own blog. Don’t think I will have much to do at college the morning other than more assessments, finish off the software development and spreadsheets assessments. Then it will be remediating my database assessment if needed, other than that I’m where I wanted to be at the start of the year. Up to date with all my assessments.

The follow on from Legend

Was shopping in Aberdeen last Thursday night when I noticed for the first time they are making another Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider Underworld. Now I can’t wait as I have always been a fan of the Tomb Raiders. Good to see the areas have changed again with Lara taking a visit to countries like Australia and Rome in the game, game seems to be the same as legend, with a few other exceptions. Puzzles are not just a way of moving from one level to another, but a good way of upgrading weapons within the levels. Different parts of levels are interlocked with others, with this and the uses of mechanisms Lara can help unlock the global puzzle. Sure hope the makers of the game keep up the good work and make it one step better. As my most favourite to date has to be legend, could this game better it, I will have to wait and see.

Client impressed with website.

Well all seems to have gone fine this week with college, although I’m still needing to complete the spreadsheets assessment due to my absence on Wednesday. Other than that I have passed the computer systems assessment, only to miss the pass rate of 14 by two marks for web development today. Very disappointed with myself, but hey, can look forward as my client was very impressed with my website, to my relief it didn’t need any corrections. Great!! All I need to do now is complete the report.

Other than the web development assessment I am awaiting on the database assessment I completed today to be marked.

Course so far

Well it’s Tuesday and I’m at home writing to you about what’s running through my mind? College and assessments. Here writing away about things for the practical web blogs assessment. Have the 5 blog review much completed now, so it just leaves me to complete the last two weekly reviews. That should take seconds, then there’s the task of reviewing my own blog. Shouldn’t be too difficult as it’s kept up to date for passing the course.
Then there’s the letter I have been remediating for the communications class, just about completed and ready to email to the tutor for him to run over. Web development is just about completed, just to finalize the report and await the judgement of my web site and whether the health and beauty student liked it or not.
Software development is just assessments now as is computer systems and the pc internet class.
So block one is almost complete with all the assessments passed so far, so I’d say I’m going strong.

The all important job is out there waiting for me

Well now, its the end of a busy week. 3 weeks left of college, that includes the resulting week. And the assessments are hammering at the door most of next week and after, so im stuck here revising for them. They are, pc passport, computer systems(intermediate 2) software development theory and practical, web development and web blogs theory. But its all worth while as i know when i pass my college courses there is going to be a great job out there in the computing industry. Roll on that moment, what am i going to be? Web or software developer . maybe i might get that sports cars. Anyhow its now stuck in the back of my mind what im wanting to do after the HNC next year.

Again thank you to everyone who visits my blog.

Web development update

Thursday has arrived again and I should be finding out weather my web development client liked the website I created her, and weather there is any corrections to make. But there has been a small delay and I won’t be finding out till next week, after I finding out about the website I have the multiple choice questions assessment. That shouldn’t be difficult. Other than that I am currently writing up the report for my health and beauty assessment, so I’d better go and think of something to write for the technical specifications.

Nearing the half way mark

The first lesson today was taken up by carrying out corrections to my database assessment, to my relief I then passed. Since I have completed all the assessments for office and personal productivity applications I then resumed with the next spreadsheets assessment. Took me ten minutes to remember some of the look up functions, other than that, the assessment is going ok.
Software development was cancelled because the tutor was off, came in handy for revising and completing work needing done. Since I have had good attendance haven’t got any work to catch up on. So the lesson was used for the spreadsheets assessment.
This afternoon was easy as I was only there for one hour doing revision for the computer systems assessment next week, perk for completing the database assessment.

Roll on block two

Now Christmas is over, I am back at college to complete the first block of my college course. First class this morning was hardware and involved removing and replacing the motherboard of a computer. Was very interesting as It wasn’t something I have done before, just goes to show you learn new things every day. Currently in my spreadsheets class practicing the database part for the big assessment as the tutor is not well. Roll on block two when I get to do more exciting things like digital media and stuff.
